Wadzinski, Arleen Joyce “Dottie” (Sicklinger) (23 MAR 1926 - 31 DEC 2009)

Arleen Joyce “Dottie” Wadzinski, 83, Rothschild, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009.

She was born March 23, 1926, in Wausau, Wis., to Lillian (Sicklinger) Mucha. Dottie graduated from the teaching program at the University of Stevens Point in 1945. She began her teaching career shortly after in a one-room schoolhouse teaching first through eighth grades.

On April 26, 1946, she married Clemens Wadzinski at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marathon City. She took some time off from teaching to raise their five children. Returning to teaching as a substitute at St. Mark's Catholic School in Rothschild Dottie then accepted a full time teaching position at St. Mary's Catholic School in Marathon City, retiring in 1987 after 21 years. Upon retirement, she and Clem spent time traveling and over 21 years wintering at the Hawaiian Isles in Ruskin, Fla.

Dottie was a longtime member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Rothschild and their Parish Council of Catholic Women, a 60-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 469, Marathon, and a lifetime member of the Rothschild Urban Aires Snowmobile Club. Dottie enjoyed teaching senior water aerobics in Ruskin, Fla., in the winter months, and at the Rothschild Aquatic Center during the summer months. She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her husband and love of her life, Clemens Wadzinski, Rothschild; her mother, Lillian Mucha, Wausau; five children, Pam (Mike) Rewey, Madison; Jeff (Fay) Wadzinski, Ruskin, Fla; Russ (Debbie) Wadzinski, Tomahawk; Jay (Carrie) Wadzinski, Melbourne Beach, Fla; Jodell (Bill) Brumfield, Howard, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Al Mucha, step-sister, Betty Michalec, one great-grandchild, Samara Woodland, and many beloved aunts and uncles.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Alan Slowiak will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, and on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service followed by an American Legion Auxiliary memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Sixth Street funeral home.
