Wellman, Shirley (McGhee) (22 MAR 1960 - 25 DEC 2018)
Shirley (McGhee) Wellman, age 58, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018,
surrounded by family at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, after a year-long
battle with pancreatic cancer.
Shirley was born on March 22, 1960, in Amherst, Ohio, to Hugh and Patricia
McGhee. She graduated from Colby High School in 1978. After a short courtship
she married Randy on April 27, 1979, and they had almost 40 years together. The
couple resided in Colby until moving to Marshfield in December 2017.
Shirley worked as a seamstress out of her house and was employed at Magic
Moments in Marshfield. She was an accomplished seamstress and completed prom and
wedding dresses for many couples in the Colby area. She was also a merchandiser
for over 15 years for a variety of companies. Randy and Shirley also welcomed
thirty-four foster children into their family throughout the years.
Her children remember her as a loving, caring, compassionate mother to many who
encouraged them to pursue their goals. She was an active and dedicated
grandmother, who enjoyed attending various family activities and functions. She
was a generous individual who loved helping others and was passionate about her
poodles.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Randy Wellman of Marshfield; children, Jason
(Anne) Wellman of Appleton, Kevin (Rachel) Wellman of Medford and Carrie (Scott)
Ray of Menomonie; six grandchildren, Makenna, Brady, Cade, Tyler, Leah and Lucy;
siblings, Bill (Debbie) McGhee of Colby, Susan Kelnhofer of Stratford, Patrick
McGhee of Stratford, Bonnie (Wayne) Sazama of Colby, Annie Ashbrenner of Athens
and Dan (Michelle) McGhee of Wausau.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Wellman.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at the American
Legion Post 358, 233 East 2nd Street, Unity, WI 54488 from noon to 4 p.m. All
are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley’s life.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the House of the Dove.
