Gemza, Henry (24 FEB 1923 - 28 DEC 2018)
Henry Gemza, 95, of Colby passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at The
Waterford in Colby, WI.
A private service and committal will be held at a later date.
Henry was born on February 24, 1923, to son of Stanley and Mary (Socha) Gemza in
Buffalo, New York. He attended St. Stanislaus School in New York and in November
1943 enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was a Pharmacist’s Mate, Third Class and
served his country until honorably discharged in April 1946. After his discharge
from the U.S. Navy, he worked for Curtiss Wright until 1954 when he started on
with the New York State Thruway Authority as a New York State Toll Collector and
married Marguerite Bauer on November 23, 1950. Sadly, Marguerite passed away on
November 7, 2005.
Some of Henry’s many hobbies included woodworking and making clocks. He loved
traveling with his wife, especially near the ocean. He loved taking walks along
the lake.
Henry is loving survived by his daughter, Gail (Howard) Ponter of Merrill; his
son, Michael (Kathi) Gemza of Denver, NC; his grandchildren, Melissa, Dan,
Steve, Tony, Stephanie and Lauren and his great-grandchildren Cailee, Aiden,
Alyssa, Adisyn, Riley, Bristol and Brynlee.
His arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
