Cherney, Louis W. (13 MAY 1937 – 14 JAN 2019)

Louis W Cherney, Spencer, age 81, of Spencer, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Marshfield Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Spencer with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Following the services, Louis will be laid to rest in West Spencer Cemetery in the Town of Sherman with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday from 1 PM until 4 PM at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer and again on Monday at the church from 10 AM until time of services. A rosary service will be held at 3:45 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Norbert Konrardy, Tom Fuller, Kenneth Breit, Mark Harrell, Henry Skrenes, Brian Hopperdietzel, Bryan Harrell and Harold Reader. Honorary pallbearers are his nephews: Richard Schmidt; Clay Reno, Craig Cherney Cal Reno and Nicholas Catura.

Louis was born May 13, 1937 in Marshfield, the son of Louis and Mary (Willman) Cherney. He was united in marriage to Marlene Reno on October 3, 1959 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield. Louis faithfully served his country in the Army National Guard beginning in 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1964 while attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Louis started working early in life at Bluhm Brothers Box Company and Casa Loma Supper Club. He later worked for Rollohome as a carpet layer and Pathfinder in Spencer. In 1972, Louis and Marlene began farming in the Town of Spencer until retirement.

He was a longtime member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Spencer, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield and Supervisor for Town of Spencer.

Louie was always available to help everyone, helping neighbors with repairs to machinery or pulling them out of a muddy field with the tractor. He enjoyed spending time in the tractor, working the fields and milking his cows-greeting each one by name.

His hobbies include woodworking and "tinkering" on just about anything. He loved his 10-20 McCormick Deering tractor, John Deere and International Harvester tractors and was a "jack of all trades". Probably though his greatest love was going dancing with his dance partner Marlene. Together they went to area dance halls dancing the polka and waltz as often as they could. He loved their time together. He enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, family and friends.

Louie will be remembered most for his kindness and great sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife Marlene of Spencer, his daughters: Dorothy (Mark) Harrell, Phyllis (Henry) Skrenes, Kathy Cherney and Michele (Brian) Hopperdietzel all of Marshfield; his grandchildren: Angela (fiancé Harold Reader), Bryan (Rose) Harrell, Sara and Emily Hopperdietzel and Alison Skrenes; a sister Darlene (Allan) Schmidt and a brother Charles (Ruth) Cherney both of Marshfield; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Darlene) Reno, Robert (Bob) Reno and Anita (Brad) Catura. Louis is further survived by many other relatives and friends as well as his canine companion "Lenny".

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, a son Michael, a granddaughter Theresa Skrenes, his in-laws Milton and Angeline Reno, his nephew Charles Reno, Jr, and his brother-in-law Charles Reno, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Louis's name are being accepted by his family for a charity to be determined.

The family wants to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Spencer Ambulance Service and to the Physician's and Staff at Marshfield Medical Center, in particular the Emergency Department and Palliative Care Unit for the care provided to Louie.

His arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
