Michlig, Mr./Mrs. John (Gold - 8 JAN 1974)
In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. John Michlig,
route 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) attended a special anniversary Mass at St.
Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, The Rev. Emil Hodnik officiating on
Saturday, September 15, 1973.
That evening a dinner was served to approximately 110 persons in the church
basement, which was decorated for the occasion with gold candles and floral
arrangements.
Following the dinner an open house and dance were held at the Abbotsford City
Hall, with music by the Augustines. A mock wedding was performed by several of
the couple's grandchildren and friends. For the event, Mrs. Michlig wore a
corsage of red roses, while Mr. Michlig sported a gold carnation boutonniere.
John Michlig was born January 21, 1900 in Marathon to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Michlig.
He was educated in the Marathon schools and farmed in Emmet prior to his
marriage.
For his wife he chose Catherine Handrick, born February 16, 1904, to Mr. and
Mrs. William Handrick, Emmet. The couple was married January 8, 1924 in Halder.
Mr. Michlig enjoys fishing and hunting. His wife sews and tends her gardens, in
her free time. Both are enjoying good health.
The couple farmed in Curtiss from 1935 to 1953, then continued living on the
farm while Mr. Michlig worked at the Bootzin Feed Store in Curtiss, later
purchased by Les Bowen. In 1965 he retired, but has been working part time in
Bowen Hardware, Curtiss.
All the attendants in the original wedding were present for the celebration.
They were best man, Henry Michlig, Athens, cousin of the groom, maid of honor,
Mrs. Ronald (Ann) Sonnentag, Laona, a sister of the bride; groomsman, Joe
Michlig, Manlius, Illinois, brother of the groom, and bridesmaid, Clara Darling,
Milwaukee, sister of the groom.
Also present were the couple's six children, Jerome Michlig, Colby; Mrs. Myron
(Lorraine) Ewert, Colby; Lavern Michlig, Dorchester; Mrs. Donald (Mary Ann)
Frane, Colby; Hilarian Michlig, Abbotsford, and David Michlig, also of
Abbotsford.
The Michligs have 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
