Among students graduating from colleges is M/Sgt. George L. Himes, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Himes, who graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi
with highest honors. Himes received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He is a
member of the U.S. Air Force and attended his final year of college on the
Bootstrap program. He is a graduate of Owen High School and attended the
University of Wisconsin at River Falls prior to his enlistment in the Air Force.
While at Sothern, M/Sgt. Himes was initiated into the National Social Science
Honor Society, Pi Gamma Mu, and also the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa
Phi. To become a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a student must have a scholastic
standing of at least 3.85 in a 4 point system.
Since his graduation Himes has returned to his duties as an instructor in Space
Systems Branch of the Ground Electronics School at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. In
late October he will be transferred to Strategic Command Headquarters at Offutt
AFB, Nebraska. His wife, Valeria, and their three children, Tim, Mark and Anne,
will accompany him on this new assignment.
