Continued economic struggles in the automotive industry have hit home with the
announcement Wednesday morning of the planned closure of the Philips Plastics
plant in Medford.
According to a certified letter received by the City of Medford Wednesday, doors
will close on the plant “on or around April 10” with plant operations to be
consolidated with those in Phillips.
The plant has undergone a series of job cuts in recent months and currently
employed 146 people.
“Our Medford location predominantly serves the automotive industry. Just like so
many other suppliers to this market, we have experienced a sharp decline in
activity coinciding with the automotive industries trouble,” said Brad
Wucherpfenning, Phillips Plastics president and chief operating officer.
