Leja, Bertha A. (Saheim) (3 APR 1915 - 17 JAN 2019)
Bertha A. Leja, 103, Cornell, passed away at 7:17 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019,
at Cornell Health Services, with family by her side.
Bertha was born April 3, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Mathie Saheim, in
Stanley. She grew up and attended school in the Brownville area, north of
Stanley. Bertha Saheim was united in marriage the summer of 1936, to Frank
Joseph Leja in Chippewa Falls, and together, they had two children, Corrine and
Elroy.
She worked at the Stanley Corp. for several years, then was a cook at the root
beer stand and Decker’s Inn. Bertha enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren,
playing cards, spending time with family, and always made sure her company was
well fed and there was plenty of pie.
She is survived by her children – Corrine Randall and Elroy Leja; Corrine’s son
– Robert (Cindy) Zaborowski, and their children – Jeremy (Liz) Zaborowski,
Stephanie Zaborowski, and Jeremy and Liz’s three children; Elroy’s children –
Joe Leja, Kathy (Neil) Redlacyk, Tina Leja, Tamara (Brendan) Hinnenkamp, Greg
(Kim) Leja and Loanda (Jake) Morrow; great-grandchildren – Camille
Gomez-Rosales, Chrystal Aguilera, Blaze Redlacyk, Joseph Hinnenkamp, Oliva
Hinnenkamp, Jamason Leja and Aubrey Leja; six great-great-grandchildren –
Tristan, Bevianna, Orian, Isabela, Ellinna and Tatum; step-grandchildren – Joe
(Shirley) Randall; step-great-grandchildren – Jesse Randall and Addy; and one
step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband – Frank; brothers – Oscar,
Martin, Edwin, Emmett, Melvin, Olaf and Marvin; sisters – Anna, Agnes, Clara,
Mabel, Ilene and Bernice; and son-in-law – Harvey Randall.
Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Cornell. Interment will be at the Stanley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service, Thursday, at
the church.
