Adelbert W. Decker (8 Nov 1913 – 9 Aug 1999)
Adelbert W. “Del” Decker, 85, of Chippewa Falls, died Monday, August 9, at
Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Funeral services were held Friday, August
13 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Edmund Doerre
officiating. Burial was held in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls.
Visitation and a Christian Vigil service were held at Horan Funeral Home in
Chippewa Falls.
Adelbert W. Decker was born November 8, 1913, in Poniatowski, Marathon County,
to George and Clara (Stroota) Decker and was raised in Dorchester. His marriage
to Arlene F. Fritsche took place on November 6, 1934.
He and his wife resided in Stetsonville. In 1942, they moved to Eau Claire and
settled on a farm in the Town of Seymour where they lived for more than 50
years. He worked at Sterling Pulp and Paper Company in Eau Claire as a wood
scaler for 30 years. He then worked at EDI in Chippewa Falls for seven years
before his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards.
He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the Loyal Order of Moose 246 and
a past president and long-time member of the Eagle’s Aerie 2213.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene; three sons, James (Audrey) of Mukwonago,
Dale (Robin) of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and David (Berdine) Decker of Bloomer; six
daughters, Phyllis (Alvin) Johnson and Diane (Charles) McCreary, both of
Chippewa Falls, Sharon (Robert) Connell of New Haven, Ind., Carol (Steven) Day
of Altoona, Judy (Dennis) Olichwier of Willard, and Paula (Michael) Ericksen of
Sturtevant; one sister, Roselind Didier of Dorchester; one brother, Ben Decker
of Oconomowoc; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Zylka and Margaret
“Peg” Thurlwell; two brothers, Oscar and Myron “Mike” Decker; one son, Galen on
August 9, 1978; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Kremer.
