Lawrence Andrew Heindl (12 Feb 1922 – 15 Sep 2000)

Lawrence A. Heindl, 78, of Dorchester, died Sept. 15, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Father James Schafer. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be at the Maurina Funeral Home in Dorchester from 4-8 P.M. Monday. A combined parish and Catholic Foresters rosary service will begin at 7 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

Lawrence Andrew Heindl was born Feb. 12, 1922 in the town of Mayville, rural Dorchester, to Martin and Theresa (nee Dessl) Heindl. After his early education, he worked in a cheese factory.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 7, 1942 to Jan. 25, 1946 in the 376th Infantry 94 Division. He was captured near the Saar-Moselle Rivers and held as a Prisoner of War from Feb. 16, 1945 to April 30, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his efforts.

Lawrence married Adeline Geiger Sept 10, 1946, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. The couple farmed in the town of Mayville for 33 years until 1979. Lawrence then served as a patrol grader for the town of Mayville.

He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Catholic Foresters, Dorchester American Legion and Colby Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the P.O.W. and D.A.V. veterans organizations.

Lawrence and Adeline enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and playing cards with family and friends. He was also a woodworker and bowled with the Dorchester Senior Citizens.

Lawrence Heindl will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Adeline Heindl of Dorchester. Lawrence is also survived by three sons, Paul Heindl of Spokane, WA, Eugene Heindl of Dorchester and Jeffrey Heindl of Hazelhurst; three daughters, Patricia (Dan) Heil of Marathon, Karen (Ken) Lewandowski of Wausau and Judy (Bobby) Bakshi of Chicago, IL; three brothers, Clemence (Margaret) Heindl of Stetsonville, Wilfred (Betty) Heindl of Dorchester and Everest Heindl of Milwaukee; three sisters, Tillie Gonnering of Marshfield, Celia (Henry) Feldbruegge of Dorchester and Gertrude Rozek of Milwaukee; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Heindl of Mukwonago; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Lawrence was predeceased by his parents; one son, David Heindl in 1994; one brother, Joe Heindl; and two sisters, Catherine Pinter and Sister Bernette Heindl.
