Baker, Edna (6 May 1912 - 17 May 2000)

Edna Ann Baker, 88, Dorchester, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby, where she had resided since this past March.

Services were held May 22 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Dorchester with Rev. Jerome Friemuth presiding.  Burial was in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

The former Edna Ann Gadke was born on May 6, 1912, at Hector, Minn., the daughter of Henry, Sr. and Elizabeth (Friday) Gadke.  She moved with her family to Stanley and received her early education at the former Edsvold School.  Edna and Alfred Baker exchanged wedding vows on Jan. 25, 1930, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of 1980.  She and family moved to Dorchester in 1951.  She was employed with Neal Smith’s Wood Products for 19 years and later the Dorchester State Bank for many years.  Edna was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Sewing Circle.

She also was a member of the Homemakers Club, Dorchester Senior Citizens and Card Club.  She enjoyed her flowers and gardening and making quilts, which she shared with family and friends.

Survivors include four sons, Leroy Baker, Roland “Dale” (Leanna) Baker, and Duane (Marlene) Baker all of Hutchinson Kan., and Richard (Ruth) Baker of Wauwatosa; four daughters, Alyce Cluster of New Freedom, Cal., Donna (Roger) Wojner of Colby, Carol (Gerald) Luterbach of Conrath, and Sherry (Loren) Johnson of Colby; four brothers, Henry (Doris) Gadke of Marshfield, Robert (Bessie) Gadke of Modesto, Cal., Louis (Lori) Gadke and Arnold (Audrey) Gadke, both of Loyal; one sister, Dorothy (James ) Belfanz of Naperville, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grand-children, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Baker on Jan. 8, 1988, one son, Gerald Baker on April 29, 1991, and a grandson, Terry in December of 1986.

Pallbearers were Randee Johnson, Kurt Baker, Jill Ewer, Tim Baker, Dawn Lange, and Randy Baker.
