Alyce G. Burhop (11 Mar 1913 – 13 May 1999)

Alyce G. Burhop, 86, Owen, died May 13, 1999, at the Victory Medical Center in Stanley.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Father Bob Samuels officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Withee.  Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Gunderson, Mark Roshell, Robert Prock, Paul Stasek Jr., Wayne Roohr and Carl Silampa.  Honorary pallbearer will be Ron Stasek.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.  There will be an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.

The former Alyce Roohr was born March 11, 1913, in Riplinger, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Wisnosky) Roohr.  She was a graduate of Colby High School and received her teaching certificate from Stevens Point Normal School.

Alyce and Louis W. Burhop were united in marriage on Aug. 3, 1932, in Colby.  The young couple resided in Colby until moving to Owen in 1944 where her husband was employed with the former Western Condensing in Owen.  They later owned and operated the Burhop Garage in Withee.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and playing cards, especially bridge, with her friends.  She was a longtime member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church and the Altar Guild, serving in many capacities.  She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Alyce will be sadly missed by her loving children, Alan (JoAnn) Burhop of Owen, Darlene Switzky of Eau Claire and Diane (Robert) Prock of Eau Claire; her grandchildren, Kim (Daniel) Gunderson, Kari (Mark) Roshell, Teri Amundson; and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jon Thomas Gunderson and Alexis Roshell; and by her sister, Dorothy Stasek of Owen.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 21, 1975; and by her parents.
