Wayne W. Dake (14 Oct 1920 – 30 Jun 2003)

Wayne Warren Dake, 82, Grundy Center, Iowa, died Monday, June 30 at the Grundy Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 3 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Rev. Bruce Boyce officiating.  Burial was in Reinbeck Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Lenius, Gary Oelschlager, Walt Cheeseman, Scott Wical, Richard and Henry Schick.

Wayne Dake was born October 14, 1920, in Clark County to the late Reinold and Amalia (Habeck) Dake.  He graduated from Dorchester High School in 1938.  He attended Milwaukee State Teachers College for a year.  He served in the United States Army during World War II.

His marriage to Mary Webrand, who survives, took place November 26, 1946, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He owned and operated the John Deere implement dealership.  He sold his business in 1967 and was then employed as parts man at John Deere dealerships in Grundy Center and Waterloo, Iowa.  He later owned the Reinbeck Laundromat.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He served on the Reinbeck City Council.  He was a member of Reinbeck American Legion Post No. 242.  He was a charter member of the Two Cylinder Club in Cedar Falls and a member of the Waterloo John Deere Collectors Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, LaCinda (John) Hanzalik of Lake Villa, Ill., and Jana (Joe) Robertson of Marshalltown, Iowa; three brothers, Melvin of Stevens Point, Lester (Merle) of Medford, and Delbert (Gloria) of Lakewood, Calif.; four granddaughters, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Geary and a brother, Ray.

Memorials may be made to the pastoral services department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
