Sester, Emma (100th Birthday – 16 November 2011)

Emma Sester celebrated her 100th birthday Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Neillsville Retirement Home with all of her friends. She enjoyed a glass of wine and some very delicious cake, all while wearing a crown. Party guests had a good time, and Emma was very talkative during the festivities. Tony Opelt/Clark County Press

Born in Neillsville Nov. 16, 1911, in the Township of Hewett, Emma Sester began her life. Lottie and Herman Schultz were her parents, and she had four brothers – Archie, Harvey, Bertie, and Victor.

Emma grew up in the Neillsville area and worked in various businesses. She eventually moved to Watertown where she met her first husband, Gilbert Bell.

After many years, the two divorced, and she moved to Hampshire, IL, where she met and married Walter Sester.. She then helped him raise his three sons as well as her own daughter, Shirley.

After they had both retired from their jobs, the two moved to Neillsville, where they lived for many years. Before her husband’s death in 1995, they lived on State Street.

In 2009, Emma moved to the Neillsville Retirement Home where she has many friends. She has many interests and was very active in her church. One of her favorite things to do was to work on her lawn and flowers.

She has two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. At the end of November, she will become a great-great-grandmother.
