Selma C. Schwartz (9 Feb 1910 – 2 Jun 1998)

Selma C. Schwartz, 88, Colby died on June 2, 1998, at the Colonial House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Colby where she had resided since June of 1996.

Funeral services were held June 8, 1998, at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford, with Mr. Charles Thein and Mr. Kevin Killiam officiating. Burial was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Selma Schwartz was born on Feb. 9, 1910, in the Town of Little Black, where her parents John and Ida Wolf Schwartz farmed. She attended area schools and later Medford Teacher’s College. She received her degree in elementary education in 1962 from the UW Eau Claire Campus. A single lady, she taught in the rural schools of Taylor, Adams and Clark counties. Selma taught her last 13 years at the Abbotsford elementary school until her retirement.

Selma loved God and was a member of a non-denominational Christian faith. She loved children and prepared special homemade cookies and cakes for her nieces and nephews.

Selma is survived by many friends, especially her brother Elmer (Beatrice) Schwartz of Lodi, Cal., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lorraine Schwartz, Clara Carlson and Anna Behnke, and two brothers, Edward Schwartz and Harvey Schwartz.

Pallbearers were Duane Wepfer, Dale Voigt, Gary Mueller, Paul Brockhous, Robert Blakeman and Kenneth Schwartz. Honorary pallbearers were Lavern Marcott and Harold Brockhaus. Organist was Debbie Brockhaus.
