Clifford Hoffmann (3 Sept 1910 - 8 Jan 1998)
Clifford Gustave Hoffmann, 87, died on Jan. 8, 1998, at his residence in the
Town of Holway, Taylor County.
Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee, with
Rev. Tom Myhre officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Withee.
Clifford Hoffmann was born Sept. 3, 1910, in the Athens area, the son of Paul
and Pauline (Bradow) Hoffmann, Sr. On May 17, 1933, the former Bernice Bunke and
Clifford were united in marriage in Medford. In their early years they farmed in
the Town of Johnson and from 1942 to 1959, they farmed in the Town of Mayville
in Dorchester. He also owned and operated a blacksmith shop in Withee. While
farming in the Town of Mayville, he also worked for many years at Rollo-Homes in
Marshfield. They have lived in the Town of Holway the past 34 years and would
have celebrated 65 years of marriage this May.
Clifford was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. In the past years, he was a
member of the Farmers Union and on the board of Hilltop School. He worked the
grader patrol for many years in the Town of Mayville. Clifford was a
self-educated craftsman as a stonemason, carpenter, electrician and woodsman. He
enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Bernice Hoffmann of Withee; two sons, Gary (Joy)
Hoffmann of Thorp and Lincoln Hoffmann of Withee: three daughters: Wilma
(Howard) Neuenfeldt of Dorchester; Lorna Larsen of Medford and Stella (Ken)
Grube of Owen; three brothers: Paul (Marion) Hoffmann, Jr. of Athens; Harvey
Hoffmann of Tomahawk and Alfred (Charlotte) Hoffmann of Stratford; three
sisters: Amelia (Vernon) Newman of Medford; Ellen (Donald) Stoughton of Athens
and Bernice (Cletus) Weber of Dorchester; 14 grandchildren, and 14
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence Hoffmann, and two
granddaughters, Carmel Neuenfeldt and Billie Louise Grube.
Pallbearers were Wyatt Neuenfeldt, April Venet, Maurice Larsen, Melvin Larsen,
Karen Tyznik, Vanessa Cwikla, Dustin Grube, Royce Grube. Honorary pallbearers
were Robin Neuenfeldt, Wanda Larsen, John Larsen, Andrea Isola, Candie Tauchen,
Crystal Grube.
