Hattie Stelzel (1 Jun 1902 – 17 Feb 1998)

The former Hattie Rackow was born June 1, 1902, in Door County to the late William A. and Margareta (Jost) Rackow. She attended Medford schools and graduated from Taylor County Normal School. Her marriage to Alvin Stelzel took place on November 12, 1926, in Dorchester. He died on December 31, 1968.

She taught at a rural Whittlesey school for one year and then taught in the Town of Holton, Marathon County, for six years. After their marriage, she and her husband farmed in the Town of Holton until 1967. She then moved to Abbotsford and resided there until moving to Medford in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Gary (Susan) Stelzel of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Ted Rackow of Medford; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister Leona Ziemer.
