Ruth P. Carlson (8 Oct 1913- 25 Sep 1998)
Ruth Pauline Carlson, 84, Dorchester, died Sept. 25, 1998, at the Colonial
Center in Colby.
Funeral services were held Sept. 28 at the Peace United Church of Christ in
Dorchester with Rev. Robert Everhard presiding. Burial was in the Dorchester
Memorial Cemetery.
The former Ruth Pauline Broeske was born on Oct. 8, 1913, in the town of
Mayville, the daughter of Gottfried and Pauline (Flentie) Broeske. Ruth and
Lloyd R. Carlson were united in marriage on June 20, 1933, at the Peace United
Church of Christ in Dorchester.
Ruth and Lloyd farmed in the town of Mayville until 1959 when they moved to
Dorchester. For 26 years, Ruth was the librarian for the Village of Dorchester.
She was very active in the Peace United Church of Christ with the Women’s Guild,
served as a Sunday school teacher for 37 years and was a member of the church
choir. Ruth was a Mayville 4-H leader and also a member of the O.D.O. Mayville
Homemakers Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening and sewing.
She is survived by her children, Lyle (Sylvia) Carlson of Colby, Arlene (Jerome)
Rankl of Abbotsford and Carole (Joe) Herman of Holcombe, nine grandchildren and
eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd R. Carlson, on May 15, 1994; one
granddaughter, Lisa Carlson; two brothers, Elroy Broeske and Edwin Broeske, and
one sister, Gertrude Hanson.
Grandchildren served as pallbearers.
A memorial will be established in Ruth’s name at a later date by the family.
