Ethel Potocnik (21 Sept 1915 - 14 Oct 2000)
Ethel Sarah Potocnik, 85, Curtiss, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Clark
County Health Care Center in Owen, where she had resided since August, 1994.
Funeral services for Ethel were held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at 11 a.m., at
the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, with Rev. Bruce Jahnke presiding. Burial was
in St. Mary’s cemetery in the town of Holway.
Pallbearers were Jerry Potocnik, Dennis Potocnik, Arlin Potocnik, William Skutak,
Rick Skutak, Tim Skutak, Todd Potocnik and Tony Potocnik.
Visitation was at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000,
from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
The former Ethel Sarah Moreau was born Sept. 21, 1915, the daughter of William
H. and Theresa (Mickelsen) Moreau, in Algoma. Ethel was a graduate of Wisconsin
Rapids High School. On June 4, 1936, Ethel and Frank Potocnik were united in
marriage in Medford.
Frank and Ethel farmed in the town of Holway for 30 years until 1967. Ethel was
a dedicated music teacher in piano and accordion. Together, she and Frank had a
great love for music and will be remembered for the “Jolly Nighthawks” band. She
was employed as a clerk with the former Griebenow Hardware Store in Owen, and
was a nurses aid until the time of her retirement at the Clark County Health
Care Center.
Ethel will be dearly missed by her daughter Donna (William) Skutak, Mosinee;
three sons, Jerry (Gloria) Potocnik, Owen, Dennis (Janet) Potocnik, Medford, and
Arlin (Duila) Potocnik, Crossville, Tenn.; four sisters, Esther Hanselman, Eagle
River, Dorothy Manniko, Wittenberg, Alice (Ralph) Suess, Huddleston, Vir., and
Fern (Jim) Schaad, Mountain Home, Ark.; one brother, Donald (Arlene) Moreau,
Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Potocnik on Feb. 23, 1998, her
parents, infant son Frank, Jr., one brother, Ray Moreau, two sisters, Mabel
Layton and Vera Moreau, one grandson, Scott Potocnik, and one great-grandson,
Jacob Potocnik.
