Elva M. Ven Rooy (21 Mar 1914 - 30 Nov 2003)
Elva M. Ven Rooy, 89, Abbotsford, died Sunday, Nov. 30 at Saint Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 3 at St. Bernard’s
Catholic Church in Abbotsford, with Rev. Eric Linzmaier officiating. Burial was
in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Pallbearers were Kerry, Jay and Keith
Ven Rooy, Larry Block, Jr., Gary Bohman and Glen Petri.
The former Elva Olson was born March 21, 1914, in the Town of Hull, Marathon
County, to the late Fred and Sarah (Tuttle) Olson.
Her marriage to Norbert Ven Rooy, who preceded her in death June 20, 1986, took
place March 30, 1932 in Colby. They resided in Abbotsford and moved to a Town of
Frankfort dairy farm in 1950. They moved to Abbotsford in 1972 and she moved to
Continental Manor in 1999.
Elva was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting and
reading.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Milbeck of Ringle, Dorothy
(Donavon) Bohman and Sandra Block, both of Stratford; three sons, Jim of
Merrill, Donald of Oshkosh and Richard (Ruth Jack) of Rothschild; a brother,
Byron, of Colby; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son,
Peter; a brother and four sisters.
