Haas, Casper F. (6 MAY 1924 – 26 JAN 2019)
Casper F. Haas, age 94, of Thorp passed on to his eternal rest on January 26,
2019, at The Homeplace in Stanley.
Casper Francis Haas was born May 6, 1924, to Casper and Lorene (Baures) Haas at
the family home in the township of Worden south of Thorp. He received his early
education at Breezy Hill Country School just west of the farm. He always said
"he went through high school... through the front door and out the back door."
Casper married Loretta (Brunett) October 8, 1949, at St. Bernard's Catholic
Church in Thorp. They purchased the family farm in May of 1958 where he and
Loretta and their large family farmed until 1985. Casper started hauling canned
milk to Blue Moon Dairy at age 15. He continued to haul bulk milk for the next
55 years until his son Daniel bought the route in 1994. He hauled grain and hay
for many local farmers when supplies ran low and did custom corn chopping and
picking every fall. When he wasn't working he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling,
and shooting pool on a league. Casper enjoyed family gatherings with his
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of
St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, a member of the Holy Name Society,
Knights of Columbus, president of the Rock Dam Rod and Gun Club, and served on
the Worden Town Board for over two decades.
Casper is survived by his thirteen children: Debra (Gordan) Christians of
Hayward, Ken (Beth) of Chetek, Daniel of Thorp, Beverly of Fitchburg, Phyllis of
Thorp, Mike of Thorp, Brian (Jenny) of Thorp, Lois of Green Bay, Nancy of Eau
Claire, Ralph (Ria) of Menomonie, Robert of Ootsburg, Doris (Wade) Zachow of Eau
Claire, and Casper (Melissa) of Eau Claire; twenty-seven grandchildren, and
thirty-six great¬grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Bernice Seaman
of Thorp, David (Pauline) Haas of Thorp, and Dennis (Marcia) Haas of Appleton;
sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Haas of Black River Falls and Pat Brunett of Thoip. He
is survived by many nieces and nephew, other relatives, and friends.
Casper was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, March 17, 2007; daughter,
Eileen, on June 7, 2008; grandson, Jacob, on November 20, 2013; daughter-in-law,
Charlene, on January 11, 2019; and infant son, Roger. He was also preceded in
death by his siblings: Dorothy (Ken) Butterfield, Henry (Marian) Haas, Elaine
(Carl) Reynolds, Alvera Lemieux, La Verne (Kathy) Haas, Mildred (Edward) Smith,
