King To Be Honored by Legion Post 73 (King - 2019)
The Neillsville American Legion Post will recognize Robert King Sr. for his
years serving the U. S.
King was born in Newark, NJ, and moved to Daytona Beach, FL, in 1955. He
attended grade school and high school in Daytona Beach. King worked on his
uncle’s fishing boat and in his store during high school.
King joined the U. S. Army in 1965. His basic training was at Fort Dix, NJ. His
advanced training in infantry was at Fort Polk, LA, and later at Ft. Lewis, WA.
King then served in the infantry in Vietnam until 1968. He received his GED in
1968 in the Army. After his discharge, he was in the Army Reserve until 1978
when he was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
After being discharged, King worked as a plumber, concrete worker and gas piping
in Michigan. He worked in Wisconsin as a pig farmer, farmhand, a cheese factory
worker and plumber until 2003. He worked in carpentry as well.
After moving to Indiana, he returned to Wisconsin in 2014. He resides at the
Tomah VA in the long-term group home.
King has five children – James, Debra, Kristy, Misty and Robert Jr. A son,
Joseph, is deceased. King has 16 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. King has
enjoyed gun shooting, fishing, hunting, gardening, sewing and raising different
types of animals. He also enjoys his family.
The recognition will be at a potluck this Monday, Feb. 4, at the Neillsville
Legion, 6 Boon Boulevard. The social hour will be at 4:30 p.m. with the potluck
starting at 5:30 p.m.
