On January 25, 1974 Orland "Woody" Woodbeck retired after 30 years of government
service. Woody started as a sub-clerk in the Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) Post Office,
and at Earl McCray's retirement, became a rural carrier on Route 2. He served on
this route for a number of years, until the retirement of Howell Stuve, at which
time he transferred to Route 1, which he served until his retirement on January
25th.
Friday night a going away party was held for the Woodbecks at Dave's Steak
House, with fellow workers and friends attending and wishing the Woodbecks a
long and happy retirement.
Woody and his wife, Edna, will leave for Texas on February 5, where they will
attend an Air Stream Trailer Rally at Harlington, Texas. At the conclusion of
the rally the Woodbecks will winter in Texas and the southwest, visiting with
their many friends now wintering there.
Jim Riley, will be assigned to Rural Route 1, while Eddie Wendt, a substitute
rural carrier for 15 years, was appointed to be the regular carrier to serve
Rural Route 2.
