Bergmann, Bonnie J. (Paul) (11 DEC 1945 - 1 FEB 2019)

Bonnie J. Bergmann, 73, of Medford, passed away Friday February 1, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday February 5, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford. Pastor Steve Rutter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Stetsonville Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday night at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel, from 4:00-8:00 PM, and also Tuesday morning at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Bonnie was born December 11, 1945 in Medford to Albert and Vernice Paul. She is a 1964 graduate of Medford Sr. High. She married Galen F. Bergmann on December 12, 1964 in Dorchester. Galen survives.

She is further survived by Children: Brenda Bergmann-Henrichs of Medford, Brian (Ann) Bergmann of Brooklyn Park, MN, Grandchildren: Nicole (Kyle) Gebert, Courtney Henrichs, Parker Henrichs all of Medford, Lauren and Alex Bergmann of Brooklyn Park, MN, Great Grandchildren: Matthew, Easton and Citori Gebert all of Medford. Brother Robert (Marion) Paul of Abbotsford, Sister Dorothy Grinker of Dorchester, Sister in Law Joan Paul of Colby and loved by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, and 3 brothers: Kenneth, William and Eugene Paul, sister-in-law June Paul, and brother-in-law Robert Grinker.

Bonnie worked for Weyerhauser in Marshfield as a factory employee from 1969-1979. She and Galen then owned the Why Go By Bar in Goodrich from 1979-2001.

She enjoyed traveling, ceramics, scrapbooks, baking, embroidery, reading, and camping. She will especially be remembered for her wonderful cookies. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren called her “grandma cookie” as they always looked forward to her home baked cookies for every season. She loved all animals, especially dogs and goats. She loved and cherished her family.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford and was a member of the Taylor County Tavern League from 1979-2001.

Bonnie met her beloved husband Galen at the Stetsonville firemen’s picnic dance. They got engaged on October 12, 1963 and were married December 12, 1964. They were married for 54 years and each time anyone asked Galen how long he was married, he would reply with the number of years and then add, “She is the best thing that ever happened to me”.

Since Bonnie’s diagnosis with ALS in April 2018 we are forever grateful for the amazing team of caregivers that poured tireless love, humor and joy into taking care of Bonnie. Family friend Jim Stark, the amazing “ladies” Kim Nuenfeldt, Debbie Sherman, Wendy Geiger, Donna Perkins and Jenny Peterson, and the outstanding staff of Hope Hospice.

As we journeyed through the difficult diagnosis of ALS, we were able to benefit from the generous grant donations of ALS Wisconsin Chapter. We would love to “pay it forward” with donations in honor of Bonnie to the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter, 333 N Mayfair Road Suite 104, Wauwatosa, Wi 53222.

Bonnie also had a soft spot in her heart for her animals. Memorials to Taylor County Humane
Society would honor Bonnie’s memory as well.
