Stepping to the beat of a drum and bagpipe band, approximately 1,000 persons
participate in ceremonies Sunday, May 12, 1974 at the 80th annual spring
commencement at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.
The Wisconsin Kilties, headquartered at the university, is an unusual music
organization, and for that reason were invited to participate in the event.
Presenting the address was Frank DeGuire, a 1953 graduate of UW, Stevens Point,
former law professor at Marquette University, and now president of the Pabst
Brewing Company in Milwaukee.
Each of the graduates passed across a platform to receive a handshake and
diploma from Chancellor Lee S. Dreyfus, despite the fact that part of the
ceremony required more than an hour's time.
Peter Warns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Warns, Route 1, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.),
was among the graduates.
Attending Peter's graduation from here were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Warns, and sisters and brothers, Elaine, Dennis, Richard, John, and Sarah.
