Press Does Well in Competition (1975)

Staff of The Clark County Press recently returned from the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Press Association with two awards for advertising design and a local column.

The meeting also served as the termination for Robert Harvey, publisher of The Press, as president of the state-wide association of weekly newspapers.

During his tenure as chief officer of the group, the association formalized a change in bylaws which created the new Wisconsin Newspapers Association, bringing many of the state’s daily papers into the fold.

Harvey also was in the spotlight during a specific evening of the meeting, the annual awards banquet. It was then that his weekly column, “Bobbin’ Around With Bob”, was announced as one of four honorable mention winners in the state-wide competition.

The column category is the largest of the many judged by the association in the contest.

Also listed as a top winner was a series of display advertisements for Jenni Floral Company of Neillsville. The ads covered the best from the past year’s advertising efforts of Roland and Janet Jenni and their account manager Gary Slaats of The Press staff.

Placing second in the competition, again with newspapers throughout the state, the Jenni Floral entry was the second annual winner for Slaats efforts. Last year, the floral ads placed third.

Each year the staff of The Press chooses the best of their creative efforts for entry into the contest.

The convention was held at Telemark Lodge in Cable and was attended by Robert and Doreen Harvey, Gary and Jane Slaats and Dr. Robert Tim and Cindee Harvey, all of Neillsville.
