Awe, Mr./Mrs. John (Gold – 18 JUN 1974)
Mr. and Mrs. John Awe, Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on Saturday afternoon, June 15, 1974, holding an open house for
friends and relatives at the American Legion Hall in Owen from 2 to 5 p.m. About
one-hundred thirty people greeted the honored couple.
Her for the occasion from Wednesday to Sunday were their daughter Virginia and
family, Dr. and Mrs. Victor Perman and daughter, Jean, Joan and Karen, and Mr.
and Mrs. Gregory Fiebling of St. Paul.
Other out of town guests coming especially for the celebration were a niece who
was their bridesmaid, Mrs. Rudy Berger of Appleton, a niece, Mr. and Mrs.
Orville Fredrick and Mrs. Andrew Fredrick of Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. Art Scheel
of Downing, California, Mrs. Clarence Wiggens and Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Nelson
and two sons of Farmington, Minnesota, Mrs. Bertha Domer and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Domer of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Werner Dahl of Cumberland, Mrs. Dede Nerban of
Ladysmith, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Meissner of southern Wisconsin, and a host of
friends from Colby, Greenwood, Abbotsford, Longwood, Withee, and Owen.
Mr. and Mrs. John Awe were married on June 18, 1924, in Thorp (Clark Co.).
Following their marriage, they resided in Owen, where Mr. Awe worked in the oil
dealer business with Ernest Schroeder. Later he worked in construction work, and
retired in 1958. Mrs. Awe was a teacher for six years in the rural schools of
Longwood, before her marriage.
For the past 20 years they have been residing in their home on a small farm in
Longwood. They are members of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Longwood, and the
American Legion and Auxiliary in Owen.
