Francis Anton Kohlnhofer was born on Nov. 24, 1929, in the town of Warner, rural Greenwood, to Joseph and Margaret (nee Shober) Kohlnhofer. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Greenwood Public Schools. After completing his education, Franny farmed and worked out west following the harvest crews. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in February 1951 and served until his honorable discharge in February 1953. He married Carolyn J. Koci on June 7, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. They farmed three miles north of Greenwood until retiring in 1993. During his retirement, Franny enjoyed driving the Mennonites, making maple syrup and growing pumpkins. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Greenwood American Legion Post #238. Franny had many interests, but especially enjoyed his Canada fishing trips with the boys; traveling; raising deer, sheep, ducks, geese and guinea hens; incubating eggs; going for rides; and visiting.

He is survived by three children: Gary (Carol) Kohlnhofer of New Berlin, Renee (Dan) Slowiak of Thorp, and Scott Kohlnhofer of Greenwood; three grandchildren: Brandon (Samantha) Slowiak of Wausau, Dustin (fiancé Jenny Goodwin) Slowiak of Minneapolis, and Laura Kohlnhofer of New Berlin; one great-granddaughter: Brinley Linae Slowiak; one sister: Barbara DeMar of McHenry, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn, on June 8, 2012; one sister, Mag Kettner; and four brothers: John, Victor, Clayton and Joseph Kohlnhofer.
