Broeske, Elroy H. (17 JUL 1897 – 7 NOV 1969)

Elroy Herman Broeske, 72, Colby (Clark Co., Wis.), a long time area resident, died Friday evening, November 7, 1969 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Services were held Tuesday, November 11 at 2 p.m.at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Burial was made in the Abbotsford Cemetery. The Rev. David Pankow officiated at the services.

The Lulloff Funeral Home of Colby was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Broeske was born at Arlington Heights, Illinois, July 17, 1897. As a young boy, his family moved to the Dorchester area, and he received his education at Dorchester schools. On October 12, 1921 he was married at the Reformed Church at Dorchester to the former Emma Behning, who survives him.

They operated a farm in the town of Mayville, Clark County until 1957, when they moved to Colby. Mr. Broeske as also active in the insurance business.

He served for many years as the chairman of the town of Mayville, and for 12 years he was a member of the Clark County Board of Supervisors, whe he served on the park and school committees. He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Colby and served as a church officer. Mr. Broeske belong to the church Men's Club and the Lutheran Laymen's League.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Armin (Dorothy) Gruenke of Port Edwards, and three sons, Donald of Gordon Grove, California, Clyde of Dorchester, and Marvin of Abbotsford. There are 13 grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ole (Gertrude) Hanson of Abbotsford, and Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Carlson of Dorchester. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin.
