Drew, Edith M. (13 Mar 1911-21 October 1999)

Viroqua--Mrs. Edith Drew, Age 88, a longtime resident of Viroqua, died
Thursday, October 21, 1999 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in
Phillips. She had moved to Price County in December of last year.

She was born March 13, 1911, in rural Clark County to Martin Krokson
and Mila Hendrickson Krokson. She married Donald Drew on June 20, 1932.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Viroqua. Edith was very
active in civic fraternal organizations. She was a member and past
Matron of Chapter #35 of the order of Eastern Star. She was also a
member of Golden Rule Shrine No. 21 of La Crosse and past president of
Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. An elementary teacher for many
years, Mrs. Drew was a past president of the Vernon County Retired
Teachers.

In 1987 she received the National Community Service Award. In 1985,
she earned the 25th Anniversary Award of AARP Chapters for outstanding
volunteer service to the community. Edith served on the Vernon County
Cancer Society Board for many years and was honored to be given the
Public Education Award in recognition of outstanding service in
cancer-related health education for the Vernon unit.

She was a loyal and active supporter of the Republican Party on the
local, state, and national levels.

She is survived by two sons, Jack (Joyce) of Phillips, and Dr.
Douglas (Ann) of Butte, Montana; four grandchildren, Linda Vyskocil of
Phillips, Laura Johnson of DePere and Julie Funke and Jessica Drew of
Butte, Montana; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Evelyn)
Trampush of Greenwood, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband;
a son, Larry; three brothers; and a sister.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 25, 1999 at the
Viroqua United Methodist Church. Pastor Frank Thompson will officiate
with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery.
