Sedlack, William (7 MAR 1897 – 8 FEB 1970)
William Sedlack, 73, Colby died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home
Sunday morning, February 8, 1970. He had been in poor health for the past year.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Colby. The Rev. Francis Rushman will officiate. Burial will take place
at the Dorchester Cemetery.
Rosaries were said Wednesday. The Men's Forester rosary was at 3 p.m., general
rosary at 8 p.m., and the Knights of Columbus at 9 p.m.
Mr. Sedlack was born March 7, 1896 at Dorchester, and received his education
there. He marriage the former Anna Kautza on February 11, 1919 at Sacred Heath
Catholic Church in Marshfield. After their married they farmed one year in the
Spencer area, then moved to Hibbing, Minnesota, where he worked in the iron
mines from 1920 to 1931. They then moved to Dorchester corners where he operated
a service station along with a farm. He sold the station, but continued to
operate the farm until 1952, when it was sold, and they moved to Colby.
He was a member of the Marathon County Board of Supervisors for 15 years, and he
served as town chairman for the town of Holton for 11 years. He was a Colby City
Alderman for four eyars.
For many years Mr. Sedlack was an officer of the Hull Town Mutual Insurance Co.,
and at the time of his death he was assistant secretary for the firm.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and belonged to the Knights of
Columbus and the Men Foresters.
Surviving, besides his wife, is one son, Robert of Alameda, California, and
three daughters, Mrs. Roy (Bernice) Robida of Stetsonville, Mrs. Lavern (Agnes)
Habeck of Oshkosh, and Mrs. Lloyd (Alice) Scidmore of Colby. Fifteen
grandchildren survive.
Also surviving are two sisters. They are Mrs. Blaine (Tillie) Swarthout of
Spencer and Mrs. William (Bertha) Mannes of Hibbing, Minnesota.
Two brothers and one sister are deceased.
