Thompson, Maurice C. (11 JUN 1895 – 12 FEB 1970)

Maurice C. Thompson of Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.), 74, died Thursday, February 12, 1970 at 3:50 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. The body lay ins tate at the Polnaszek Funeral Home at Abbotsford and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church at Abbotsford, followed by interment in the Abbotsford Cemetery.

The Rev. Boyd Jordon of Stevens Point conducted the services at the church, during which Robert Benson of Sun Prairie sang "In Time Like These" and "How Great Thou Art," with self-accompaniment. Mrs. Eugene Strathman was organist.

The pallbearers were Kenneth Anderson, Mel Atzen, Arvid Carlson, Guy Dorazio, Jerry Fehlen and Howard Kramer.

The Rev. Emil Hodnik of Abbotsford conducted the committal service, and the American Legion Hansen-Terrio Post No. 139 provided the honorary pallbearers and conducted military rites at the graveside, with Frank Nikolay acting as chaplain. The Wisconsin National Guard provided the firing squad. Geoffrey Kieser was the bugler.

After the final rites, relatives and friends returned to the church for lunch, before which the Rev. Lillian Jensen of Abbotsford asked the blessing.

Mr. Thompson was born June 11, 1895 in the town of Mayville (Clark Co.), the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thompson. He attended local schools and was married to Bessie Nemesch in 1920. He was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Thompson was an insurance underwriter for many years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, in which he held various offices, the American Legion Hansen-Terrio Post No. 139, and the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce. He took an active party in the work of the Easter Seal Society.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Maurice T. "Tommy" Thompson of Tomahawk, and one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Margery) Helding of Rothschild; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Minette) Stewart of Greenwood, and three brothers, Olin of Phoenix, Arizona, Lloyd of Greeley, Colorad, and John of Covina, California.
