Laabs, Norbert H. (2 MAR 1910 - 11 MAY 1970)
Norbert H. Laabs, 60, Tripoli, a former resident of Dorchester (Clark Co.,
Wis.), died at Sacred Heart Hospital, Tomahawk, Monday morning, May 11, 1970. He
had been a patient there about two weeks, and had been in ill health for several
years.
The Rev. James Richards officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services on Wednesday
afternoon at St. Francis of Assisi Church at Pier Willow. Burial was made in the
church cemetery.
Norbert Henry Laabs was born March 2, 1910. He married Pauline Boor on October
20, 1932, at Medford. He was a cheesemaker, string in 1926, when his father
purchased a cheese factor a mile south of Dorchester, where Dorchester Towers
Incorporated is now located.
Mr. Laabs purchased the business when his father retired. He built the
Dorchester Cheese Factory in the village in 1949, which he sold in 1953.
A school bus driver for a number of years, Mr. Laabs lived in the village of
Dorchester. In 1967 they moved to their cottage near Tripoli, which has been
their home since then.
He was a member of the Wisconsin State Cheesemakers Association.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Delbert (Myrna) Zimble of
Chippewa Falls and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Hurth of Park Falls. There are five
grandchildren.
Three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Fern) Kasper of Marshfield, Mrs. Harold (Olive)
Klessig of Colby, and Mrs. Albert (Elvera) Schultz of the town of Mayville, also
survive.
