Lalan, Albena (Thomas) (7 APR 1925 - 17 MAR 2019)

Albena (Thomas) Lalan, 93, of Sarona, died on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, surrounded by her loving family. She will be missed and was loved by so many.

Albena was born on April 7, 1925, in Weyerhaeuser, to John and Katherine (Waligora) Thomas. She graduated from the Weyerhaeuser High School and then was married to Orville “Butch” Lalan on June 1, 1946, in Weyerhaeuser.

She worked for Allis Chalmers and was a CNA in the Terrace View Health Care in Shell Lake. She enjoyed traveling with Lisa, cooking, knitting, reading, bowling, gardening and planting flowers. She volunteered in the Hospice program and loved helping out people.
Albena was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #5780 in Weyerhaeuser and was a gold star mother.

Albena is survived by her daughters, Kristi (Lalan) of Edina, Minn., and Lisa (Lalan) Schaedel of Anthem, Ariz. and her son, John Lalan of Sarona and Phoenix, Ariz. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sharon, Jacob, Ted, Karson and Katherine; three great-granddaughters, Lucy, Leah and Macy and many nieces. and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville “Butch” Lalan; her son, Larry Lalan, who was killed in Vietnam on Nov. 10, 1968; her sisters, Lucy Gulan and Helen Cudo and her brothers, John Thomas and Steve Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Sarona with Father Bala officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday, April 1.

Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Weyerhaeuser.
