Junior Kiwanian for March (Koprek - 2019)
Mady Koprek
Continuing its 50-plus-year tradition, the Neillsville Kiwanis Club named
Neillsville High School senior Mady Koprek as its March Junior Kiwanian. She is
the daughter of Mike and Amy Koprek and Mandy Gathye. Koprek will participate in
the club’s Monday meetings and will have an opportunity to experience the
functions of a service club.
“A strong, diverse range of achievements, participation and volunteer activities
mark this outstanding student’s high school career.” Neillsville Kiwanian Brent
Shoup wrote in a press release.
Koprek is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Fine
Arts Club and Spanish Club. Koprek has received multiple first-place medals at
both district and state solo and ensemble competitions. She also was named to
All Conference Choir as a senior and has participated in a school musical.
Athletically, Koprek has played basketball. She is in her third year of track
and field and served as captain on this year’s volleyball squad.
She has volunteered in community service activities, including assisting at
church and cancer benefit functions, clothing drives, various choir activities,
human society fundraisers and brat sales. Additionally, Koprek has assisted at
alumni volleyball tournaments and middle school track events.
Following graduation this spring, Koprek plans to attend University of
Wisconsin-Green Bay to major in human biology. Her tong-term goal is to become
either a physical therapist or a pediatrician and to focus on working with
children.
“The Junior Kiwanian program gives recognition to outstanding students like Mady
Koprek who have demonstrated strong academic achievement, shown good leadership
qualities and strive to make use of their talents,” Shoup wrote. “Through their
participation in the Junior Kiwanian program, students are provided an
introduction to the concept of a service organization such as Kiwanis, which
encourages active participation in the community throughout the lifespan.
“The Neillsville club wishes her continuing success in her future endeavors."
