Loyal Native Named UW-Madison Student Employee of the Year (Larson – 2019)
Three students were recently chosen as UW-Madison’s student employees of the
year, with a Loyal High School alumnus receiving the top honor.
First place went to Morgan Larson, who is an assistant meat laboratory manager.
Larson is a dairy science major and is set to graduate in May. Her future plans
include continuing to work in the meat science industry.
Larson said her favorite part of her job has been all the great people she has
met along the way, including professors, supervisors, coworkers, inspectors, and
client company personnel.
“The best group of people I have met are the other students who work here with a
passion for meat science. I couldn’t do what I do without a great crew of
students like I have,” she said in a March 15 press release.
Larson said her job has been a huge growing experience.
“I came into this job knowing absolutely nothing about meat science, so I
learned everything, from harvesting animals to selling finished product in our
retail store and every little step along the way,” she said. “I’ve learned about
managing students, working with state inspection agencies and following food
safety plans. I have learned more than I ever thought possible about meat
science and look forward to continuing to learn after graduation.”
Larson’s other campus activities include Women’s Club Ice Hockey and the Badger
Meat Science Club.
The other student employees of the year are, in second place, Auna
Kaufmann-Schwartz, assistant ranger at the UW Arboretum; and in third place,
Brody Bien, student research assistant in the department of surgery.
