Morris Mantor has sold the business of the Abbotsford Lime Service to James
Karau of Spencer.
Mr. Karau assumed ownership June 1, 1970. Mr. Mantor, however, is continuing to
haul orders that have been place this spring, and will be completing them in the
near future.
Mr. Karau was born on a farm near Spencer and grew up in the area. He is a
graduate of the Wisconsin State University at River Falls with a major in
agriculture.
Since 1963, he has worked for the Armour Fertilizer Company at Spencer, which
has recently been purchased by United States Steel. He was the Spencer plant
manager.
Mr. Karau is married and the couple has two children. They are presently making
their home at Spencer. Mrs. Karau taught for 11 years in the Colby and Spencer
school systems, and is presently teaching on a part time basis at Spencer.
The business will continued to be operated from its present site in Abbotsford,
along the Sool Line railroad right of way. The name will be Abby Ag Lime.
The same product will continue to be sold and will include 80-89 and 90-99
superfine lime. The firm will continue to handle orders through the ASCS office,
and soil sampling services will be offered.
The operating area will continue to be in Clark, Marathon and Taylor counties.
Mr. Mantor has operated the Abbotsford Lime Service for the past 15 years. He
has made no immediate plans for the future.
Equipment and trucks owned by him will be sold at an auction sale at the site on
Saturday, June 20, at 1 p.m.
Mr. Karau states that he hopes "to be able to continue offering services as well
as Morris has done."
