Phaneuf, Gordon (21 APR 1894 – 19 JUN 1970)
Gordon Phaneuf, 76, Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.), died Friday, June 19, 1970 at
6 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, after a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Polnaszek Funeral Home,
Abbotsford. The Rev. Keun Won Park, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church,
Abbotsford, officiated at the services at 2 o'clock
Mrs. Eugene Strathman was the organist. Military rites were held at the
Abbotsford Cemetery, where burial was made.
Six grandsons served as pallbearers: Mark and Jan Daane, Brent, Scot, and Quinn
Phaneuf, and Dean Reiter.
Mr. Phaneuf was born April 21, 1894 at Neenah. As a small child he came to the
town of Mayville (Clark Co.), where he received his education. He served with
the U.S. Navy during World War I.
His marriage to Lila Parge took place July 2, 1920, at Abbotsford. He spent most
of his life in the Abbotsford area, and was a fireman and engine watchman for
the Soo Line Railway. He was employed in Milwaukee for a time, and in 1956
suffered a heart attack, and was in poor health since that time.
He is survived by his widow and three sons: Warren of Marshfield, Marlin of
Waukesha, and Lynn of Abbotsford, and two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Avis) Daane of
Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Lester (Phyllis) Reiter of Stetsonville, 19
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
All of the children and grandchildren, except Michael and Greg Phaneuf of
Waukesha, who are in the service, were here for the funeral.
Others from Away who came were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bill of Shingleton, Michigan,
Mrs. Walter Schultz and Mrs. Mable Barrone of Merrill, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Hagen of Stanley.
