Schwantes, Maynard (8 MAY 1905 – 23 JUN 1970)

(Note: Newspaper spelled the name as Schwentes, but the cemetery listing says Schwantes, along with a number of other Schwantes individuals)

Masonic graveside rites will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Colby Memorial Cemetery for Maynard Louis Schwantes, 65.

A former area resident, he died at his home in Leona, Iowa, early Tuesday morning of a heart attack.

Loyal masonic Lodge 335 will conduct the services here. The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home beginning Friday morning. Prior services were held today, Thursday, at the Leon Methodist Church.

Mr. Schwantes operated cheese factories in central Wisconsin and later was a dairy inspector for the state. He also operated Gambles stores at Stratford and Loyal.

After leaving Loyal he operated an A & W root beer business at Fairfield, Iowa, and for the past several years operated a root beer business at Leon.

Mrs. Schwantes was born May 8, 1905, and married September 26, 1929, to the former Elsie Grauman, who, with one son, Duane, of Birmingham, Iowa, survive. There also is one brother, Donald of Neillsville, and a sister, Mrs. B. (Ermine) Neville, Milwaukee. A brother, Walter, preceded him in death.
