Weix, Mr./Mrs. Martin (Gold – 16 JUN 1970)
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Weix of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) observed their 50th wedding
anniversary Sunday, June 21.
A dinner for 110 relatives was held at the city hall, which was decorated for
the occasion with gold bells and streamers. A wedding cake decorated with golden
slippers and bells was a feature.
The previous evening, an anniversary mass was said at St. Mary's Catholic
Church.
An attendant at the wedding 50 years ago, Dr. Frank Weix, a brother of Martin,
was present at the celebration. Mrs. Nor Kriplean of Milwaukee, sister of Mrs.
Weix, was unable to be here because of illness.
Relatives from Whittier, California, Milwaukee, Athens, Edgar, Wausau, and
Hubertus attended the event.
Mr. and Mrs. Weix were married June 16, 1920 at St. Mary's Church by Rev. Fr.
Lachnitt. Mrs. Wix, the former Mary Gertrude Tambornino, was born May 4, a896 at
Le Center, Minnesota. Mr. Weix was born December 13, 1897 at LeRoy, Wisconsin.
The couple lived on a farm five miles west of Colby all of their married lives
until retirement in 1967.
Enjoying good health, they have hobbies of knitting for Mrs. Weix, and fishing
and hunting for her husband.
They are the parents of 11 children, five sons and six daughters: Henry and
Alphonse of Athens, Leonard of Unity, Paul of Marshfield, and Leo of Abbotsford,
Mrs. Frank Carpenter (Patricia) of Colby, Mrs. Lyle Kilty (Irma) of Unity, Mrs.
Leonard Riese (Laura) of Unity, Mrs. Donald Schnabel (Rita) of Colby, and twins,
Mrs. Norbert Dittner (Mary Ellen) of Marshfield, and Mrs. La Verne Weis (May
Ann) of Spencer.
There are 42 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
