Bush, Mr./Mrs. Leonard (Gold – 16? AUG 1970)

All of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bush of route 1, Dorchester, were together to celebrate the Golden Wedding Anniversary of their parents.

Mrs. Harry (Vivian) Wilhelm came from Chippewa Falls, Miss Irene Bush, Cameron, Wisconsin, Mr. Richard (Betty) Curry, Hong Kong, Robert Bush, Caledonia, Minnesota, William Bush, Napa, California, Mrs. Andrew (Elsie) Knopps, Quinnesec, Michigan, Stanley Bush, Encarnacion, Paraguay, Mrs. Mary Ann Smith, Pensacola, Florida, and Mrs. Ron (Kathy) Gilbert, Woodland Hills, California.

The observance held Sunday, August 16, 1970, began with a family dinner at noon at the Abbotsford City Hall, with 50 attending. Two of the children, Stanley and Mrs. Knopps, provided vocal music, and there were appreciative and complimentary expressions given by each of the children.

Also present were Mrs. Leora Beach of Manitowoc, sister of Mr. Bush, and Dr. Charles V. Hinke Sr. of Abbotsford, brother of Mrs. Bush, the attendants at their wedding.

One of the special gifts received by the honored couple was an album of congratulatory messages from around the world.

In the afternoon, approximately 150 guests attended the open house held at the city hall from 2 to 5. Refreshments were served.

Mr. Bush, who was born May 9, 1895, at Waupun, the son of Norman and Libby Bush, attended Waupun public schools and studied agriculture at the University at Madison. He was in the Naval Radio Service from September 1917 to September 1919, and was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, Dunwoody Institute at Minneapolis, and Howard University at Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Mr. Bush was active in 4-H club work and was a leader for 34 years.

Mrs. Bush, the former Anna Hinke, was born to Claus and Marie Hinke July 8, 1901, in the town of Mayville (Clark Co., Wis.). She was educated in the Pleasant Hill and Abbotsford High School, and was employed at the A. J. Meyer General Store before her marriage. The wedding ceremony took place in the house where she was born, with the Rev. Vance oc Colby officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Bush operated the farm and are still operating a 120 acre dairy farm at the place of her birth.

The Bushes have six daughters and three sons. Leonard Bush Jr. died October 1961 in Galt, California. They have twenty three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Bush has one sister, Mrs. Beach of Manitowoc. Mrs. Bush has three brothers, Dr. Charles V. Hinke Sr., Abbotsford, Alfred Hinke of Dorchester, Ellsworth Hinke of Oregon, and one sister, Mrs. Elva Miller of California. She has a half-brother, Henry Hinke, of Stanley.

Guests here for the observance of the golden anniversary came from Paraguay, Hong Kong, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas, Florida, California, Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin.
