Hansen, Elaine F. (25 JUN 1933 – 19 APR 2019)
Elaine F. Hansen, 85, Greenwood, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019, at the
House of the Dove in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on
Friday, April 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Rev. Leo Johnson
will officiate and burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Elaine’s
grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the church
on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Elaine Frances Ohnemus was born at home on the Taylor-Clark county line on June
25, 1933, to Aloysius E. and Mary T. (nee Frueh) Ohnemus. She was raised on the
family farm and received her education at Hixton Heights Country School, before
graduating from Owen High School in 1951. After completing high school, Elaine
worked at Thorp Finance until her marriage to Francis Earl Hansen on April 27,
1954, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen, after his discharge from the U.S.
Army. They farmed in the Owen area until 1955 and then moved to Willard to take
over her parents’ farm. In 1965, Elaine started working at the Greenwood
Pharmacy, and remained there until retiring in 1995. She then worked for the
Green Thumb program at the Greenwood High School library. She was a member of
Holy Family Catholic Church and its PCCW, where she enjoyed helping at the
bazaar and other church functions. She was a member of the Greenwood American
Legion Auxiliary, was an active member of the Friends of the Old School where
she helped plan the class reunions for many years, and enjoyed her breakfasts
and travels with her friends, “The Nifty 50’s.” Elaine had many interests, but
especially loved attending any extracurricular activities in which her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved, watching the Little League
Baseball World Series, Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Bucks. She also enjoyed
crocheting afghans for family and the church, reading, crossword puzzles, and
visits from her great-grand-dog, Mo.
She will be dearly missed by three sons: David of Greenwood, Dennis (Tamara) of
Eau Claire, and Douglas (Tammy) of Willard; two daughters: Debra T. Ortner of
Greenwood, and Deidra (Kevin) Schlough of Withee; 11 grandchildren: Holly (Bob)
Dillenbeck, Brian (Amy) Ortner, Erin (Rob Johnson) Hansen, Matthew (Jessica)
Hansen, Benjamin (Lindsey) Hansen, Theresa (Jake Laskowski) Ortner, Jacob
(Amanda) Hansen, Justin (Kristen) Hansen, Jason (Alex Krusiec) Hansen, Stefanie
Marvin and Marcus Marvin; eight great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Aubrey, Logan,
Bennett, Evangeline, Remington, Andrew and Vada; and several nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis, on Oct. 5,
1991; one daughter, Barbara, in 1954; a daughter-in-law, Fern Hansen; two
brothers: Mervin and Melvin Ohnemus; and three sisters: Evelyn (Lewis) Walde,
Etha (Charles) Arnstad, and Ethel (Leonard) Hayden.
