On Wednesday, April 17, the Thorp Board of Education awarded Pat Malecki with a
Recognition of Outstanding Achievement. Malecki took over the Forensics program
31 years ago, at a time when the program was in danger of being shut down. She
has helped countless students since then to develop their skills in both verbal
and nonverbal communication that have not only helped to make the Thorp
Forensics program a yearly success, but also built a foundation for success in
their lives beyond the School District of Thorp.
Pat Malecki was herself a forensics team member in high school and she still has
memories of competing at UW-Eau Claire, especially the poem "Evangeline." which
was one of her favorite competition pieces. She also spent 24 years working with
the Eau Claire Children's Theatre, as well as taking responsibility for
leadership of the Thorp Drama Club for 15 years before passing the torch to
current director, Holly Noah.
Malecki was further reinforced by the lifelong impact Forensics can have on
students when she was contacted by a former Forensics student who credited her
own experience in Thorp Forensics to her successful career on the radio.
Besides Forensics, Malecki performs with her church's choir, something she has
done for 60 years and counting. She also serves as a substitute teacher at the
Thorp School District quite frequently, filling in critical positions when
called upon to do so. "We are lucky to have Pat Malecki as part of our school
community and value her contributions and outstanding achievements." said
Superintendent John Humphries
