Butler, Mr./Mrs. Earl V. (Gold – 5 OCT 1970)

Mr. and Mrs. Earl V. Butler observed their 50th wedding anniversary Monday, October 5, 1970, and celebrated the event Sunday, October 4, beginning with a 10:45 a.m. mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby (Clark Co., Wis.).

A 12 o'clock dinner was served to 112 guests at St. Mary's dining hall, and open house was held at the hall from 2 to 4 p.m.

Dining tables were decorated with gold streamers and candelabra, living plants and vases of flowers. The appropriately decorated anniversary cake was place at the head table, and was made by their daughter, Mrs. Glenn Korntved, Milwaukee.

Mrs. Butler was presented a corsage of gold roses and white carnations and yellow carnation boutonnieres were also present to the couple's two children and their spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Ruth) Korntved, Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Butler, Ashland, Oregon.

The couple received the nuptial blessing from Father Frank Rushman prior to dinner, and enjoyed the historical document prepared by their son, recalling events of the past half century.

Earl V. Butler, son of Abraham and Josephine Butler, was born in the town of Unity (Clark Co., Wis.) March 16, 1897, and received his education there. He farmed near Unity and worked for Hugo Krepsky's Hardware Company prior to his marriage.

Ottilia E. Budde, daughter of Henry and Emma Budde, was born October 19, 1801, in the town of Beaver Dam, and received her education at Colby.

Earl V. Butler and Ottilia E. Budde were united in marriage October 5, 1920, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby, with Rev. Henry Lachnit officiating. Their attendants were the bride's sister, Johanna Budde, now of Hillsboro, and her cousin, Joseph Budde, Beaver Dam, was best man.

After their marriage the couple lived on their present farm, although they moved into the home they now occupy when it was built in 1922.

They are the parents of three children, Mrs. Glenn (Ruth) Korntved, Milwaukee, Joseph, Ashland, Oregon, and Louis, who died February 10, 1934, at the age of nine and one-half.

There are eight grandchildren and two living great-grandchildren. Two others are deceased.

Mr. Butler is still self-employed as a home builder, and he owns and operates a saw and planning mill. Both he and his wife are in good health. His hobby is woodworking, and she enjoyed gardening and houseplants.

Although the attendants for their 1920 ceremony were unable to attend, other guests attending the celebration were from Hilbert, New Holstein, Chilton, Stratford, Owen, Plymouth, Marshfield, Manawa, West Allis, Abbotsford, Dorchester, Unity, Spencer, Greenwood, and Colby.

On Sunday, October 11, a square dance is planned at Unity Memorial Hall to honor the couple.
