Urban to be Honored by Legion Post 73 (Tyler Urban - 2019)

Tyler “TJ” Urban, a veteran who was born in Neillsville, will be one of three
people honored for their military
Service by the Neillsville Legion Post, 6 Boon Boulevard, in May.
The honor will be part of a program at the Legion this Monday, May 6. The
program starts with a social hour at 4:30 p.m., with a potluck at 5:30 p.m.
Urban attended St. John’s Lutheran School for eight years and graduated from
Neillsville High School in 1965. After graduation, he was employed at the B-Line
Body Shop.
Urban joined the Army Reserves in July 1966 and was attached to Detachment 1
32nd Engineer Company.
Later, his basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. His advanced
training was at Fort Sill in Oklahoma for chemical, biological and radiological
warfare.
In 1970, he was deployed to the 82nd combat engineer battalion in Bamberg,
Germany. He held multiple positions, including squad leader and motor pool
technician. He was discharged in December 1971.
In February 1971, Urban joined the local National Guard unit and was discharged
in December 1976. He had 10 years in service as sergeant.
In 1972, Urban opened the Phillips 66 gas station and body shop on Hewett Street
in Neillsville. He also worked at Urban’s Sales and Service as a service writer
and technician until 1995.
Urban then opened TJ’s Auto and Truck Repair and is still in business. He
married his wife, Gayle, in 1973. They have three sons – Lonnie, Len and Troy.
They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They also have one
great-grandchild on the way.
Urban enjoys demolition derbies, hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He
also likes to snowbird in Arizona during the winter.
