Hoffman, Earl L. (18 DEC 1938 – 28 APR 2019)

Earl LeRoy Hoffman, 80, Greenwood, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 28, 2019. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 9, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Missionary Baptist Church, 302 N. Main St., Greenwood. The service will be held at noon with a meal to follow.

Earl was born on Dec. 18, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and grew up on a dairy farm. He served his country as a U.S. Army engineer out of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., from 1957-58. He worked in many different areas but really liked the adventure of being on his own and owned a variety of businesses, the last of which was Independent Dairy Services, doing DHIA milk testing in this area. At the time of his death, he was enjoying retirement with his wife in addition to transporting local children to their school, which was one of his favorite pastimes. He and his wife have been the directors of the local food pantry for the past four years, and he was also a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood. He was the chair of the Republican Party of Clark County for several years, and remained passionate in politics. He was honored to receive the Alvan E. Bovay Award in 2011.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his sisters: Shirley and Carol; his sons: Darrel, Earl, David, and Matthew; his daughters: Dana, Irene, and Emily; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorris; his father, Earl; his brothers: Michael and Bud; and his grandson, Eric.
