Campbell, Connie S. (20 June 1943 – 22 January 2019)
Connie Campbell passed away at her residence in Lake Geneva, Jan. 22, 2019,
after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Connie was born June 20, 1943, to Doris and Norman Patterson of Chicago, IL
Connie spent her young life in Chicago, where she was raised, went to school and
later worked for Fannie Mae Candy.
She married Donald Campbell in 1964. They lived in Chicago for several years,
where they started a family in 1966 and had their first daughter, Laurie. They
later moved to Neillsville, having a second daughter, Gail. They divorced in
2003, and she moved to Lake Geneva.
Connie had a passion for antiques, collectibles and resale. They would refinish
furniture and made frequent trips to Colorado to auction houses. Connie
eventually opened her first resale shop next to the O’Neill Creek in an old
carpenter shop next to Campbell’s Auto Repair. Connie later opened C.C. Resale
along 7th Street in the old Wasserburger store.
For a short time, she worked for Kickapoo, now known as Kwik Trip.
Connie had what she would call a “gift of gab.” She started a job at Sunburst
Youth Homes, working with troubled teenage girls, talking with them and trying
to help them with their problems. Connie worked there for many years, even as
Sunburst closed its door and became Homme Home. She and Don also became foster
parents for Teipner Treatment Homes, fostering troubled teens out of their home.
Connie continued to work for Homme Home in Lake Geneva.
She enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions on weekends and staying in her
pajamas and getting lost in reading a book for the day. She drank warm diet Coke
from a can, ate cheerios after they sat in the refrigerator for an hour, and
believed pancakes were for any meal of the day. She had an infectious laugh and
touched the lives of so many; she was so loved and will be missed forever by her
family.
She is survived by her former husband, Donald Campbell; children Laurie Carteron
and Gail Campbell; grandchildren Jackie Carteron and John Carteron;
great-grandchildren Alanna Carteron and Gabe Carteron, all of Neillsville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris.
Services will be held at a later date. Steinke-Lazarczyk Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services of Lake Geneva assisted the family.
