Bertz, John R. "Jack" (28 NOV 1928 – 19 NOV 2019)

John “Jack” Raymond Bertz, 90, Verona, formerly of Loyal, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at All Saints Assisted Living in Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Mary’s of Pine Bluff Catholic Church in Pine Bluff, with Rev. Rick Heilman presiding. Burial will be held at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Loyal.

Jack was born on Nov. 28, 1928, in Marshfield, the son of Edward and Florence (nee Hannah) Bertz. He graduated from Loyal High School in 1946 and St. Norbert College, De Pere, in 1950. He married Jane Smith on Aug. 12, 1950, in Loyal. Jack worked in Soils and Survey Section for the USDA in Clark County and Dane County, retiring in 1996. Jack was a private man who had many hobbies to include gardening, investing, and collecting rare coins and stamps. He will be remembered most for his strong Catholic faith and the love of his family.

Jack is survived by his wife, Jane, of 69 years; one daughter, Lauren Thomen, married to Mike; four sons: Peter; Paul, married to Phoebe (Lewis); Phillip, married to Linda (Gill); and Patrick, married to Lorinda (Rainsberger); 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Florence Bertz.

Bertz, John ‘Jack’ Raymond (28 November 1928 – 19 November 2019)

John "Jack" Raymond Bertz, age 90, of Verona, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at All Saints Assisted Living in Madison. He is survived by his wife Jane (Smith) Bertz of 69 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s of Pine Bluff Catholic Church, 3673 County Road P, Pine Bluff, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, with Fr. Rick Heilman presiding. Burial will be held at Saint Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Loyal. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass on Saturday.
