Slock, Laconda (19 SEP 1902 – 24 DEC 1974)
Services for Mrs. August (Laconda) Slock, 72, route 2, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.),
were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Withee. Mrs.
Slock died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, December 24th, 1974 at St. Joseph's Hospital in
Marshfield, where she had been admitted on December 22nd.
Elder Larry Grahn conducted the services, and burial was made in the Riverside
Cemetery (rural Withee).
The former Laconda Combs was born September 19, 1902 at Terre Haute, Indiana,
and was married to August Slock in August 1937 at Owen. She came to Withee in
1923 and farmed in the town of Hixon until 1973. (Something doesn't seem right
here, as she didn't get married until 1937 (?), but farmed with her husband
beginning in 1923 (?)) They then moved to the village of Withee.
Survivors include her husband; a nephew, Ray Combs of South Dakota; two sisters,
Mrs. Blanche Hutton…(a line was missing from the newspaper article here) Slock,
Withee, and two brothers, Fred Combs, Lansing, Michigan and Ray Combs, Elkhart,
Indiana. Preceding her in death were two brothers.
Pallbearers were Owen and Edward Melin, John Volk, Carl and Floyd Thorne, and
Morris Martin.
