Thorne, Floyd G. (24 MAR 1924 – 29 DEC 1974)
At two o'clock today funeral services for Floyd George Thorne will be conducted
from the United Church of Christ, Owen. The Rev. Kenneth Dix will officiate at
the final rites, with burial to be made at Riverside Cemetery (rural Withee).
Mr. Thorne's death is a shock to his family and his many friends in the
community, as he died suddenly at his home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon,
apparently of a heart attack.
Floyd George Thorne, 50, was born March 24, 1924 at Riplinger, Clark County,
Wis., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thorne. For many years he was employed as
a mechanic by Louis Burhop. In 1950 he purchased a farm north of Owen (Clark
Co., Wis.) on DD, in the town of Hixon, where he did work as a mechanic and also
was employed at the Fredrick Post Manufacturing Company in Owen. For several
years he was also an employee of the Will Implement Company, and then left in
1964 to establish his own garage on his farm. In 1967 he expanded his operation
to include a saw mill and logging business. In 1973 he established a partnership
in the logging business with his son Carl.
Mourning his untimely loss are his wife, the former Jeanette Thede, whom he
married on June 12, 1948 at Colby; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thorne,
Owen; his son, Carl, and a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Phyllis) Wilson, both of rural
Owen; two brothers, Donald Thorne, Owen, and Wilbur Thorne, Wickensburg,
Arizona; and a sister, Mrs. Arnold (Joyce) Ellis, Arpin.
